Terri Schiavo's canonical rights

Terri Schiavo's parents, in an attempt to stave off the judge's latest ruling that Terri's death by starvation and dehydration begin on March 18 with the removal of her feeding tube, have petitioned the court on her behalf that she be granted a divorce from Michael Schiavo. Meanwhile, prayers continue throughout the world for Terry's life to be spared and for her to receive the various therapies and tests that Michael has denied her.

For me the two most troubling actions of her husband were a) to refuse to allow the medical folks to administer a swallow test and b) to refuse to allow her to receive the sacraments. Pete Vere wrote a good article about this two years ago. Pete is a canon lawyer and his article touches only on her canonical rights, without addressing the larger issue of the denial of her civil right to practice her religion. It's well worth reading.

Why Was Terri Denied Holy Communion?
